Thoughts on A Quiet Place

I would normally start these by doing a build to end the opening paragraph with my feelings on a movie or game but I'm getting right to it here! This is the best Horror movie since IT and It Follows and it will more than likely be my favorite movie this year! It's so rare that I'm hyped for a Horror movie and it have it fully deliver like this movie did! I wanna go ahead and say that I'm not going to talk much about the story here because I don't want to give anything away. It's not an overly complicated plot or anything, I just think experiencing it for yourself is best.

I want to start by talking about the feel of this movie. So this is a Horror movie but it could just as easily pass as a Drama. There are some jump scare moments in this movie for sure, but the tone is very serious with little to no goofy moments. The way the movie is shot is gorgeous as well. Once the creatures are introduced there are some good close up shots of them and you get to see them. They did a good job hiding them in the trailers and that was smart because they look awesome! The way these characters are presented is so good and it makes you care about them. You spend the entire movie with this family and you get to know them pretty well by the end.

The standout here is Emily Blunt in my opinion! This might be my favorite performance of hers and, to me, she deserves some Best Actress nominations! The movie has very long stretches with no dialogue and her facial expressions are so powerful, especially late in the movie. The trailers have already shown that she is pregnant and the scene with her giving birth is super intense! I know that she's John Krasinski's wife and having her have a huge part might sound like he had it set up that way but I don't think so, she's just that good of an actress!

Speaking John Krasinski, my God, what a coming out party for him being a big name! He co-wrote, was an Executive Producer, Directed, and was the lead in this movie! He literally pulled a Kevin Costner and he may see awards like he did with Dances with Wolves! Yes, I'm comparing the quality on this movie to that of Dances with Wolves, I think it's that good! I loved The Office, I watched it late but that still counts, but now he will be getting a ton of offers for some major roles and I'm ready to see him in big name movies as a lead!

I also want to mention the kids in this movie. It seems since Stranger Things came out that younger actors have been killing it and it's no different here. They are asked to do some pretty demanding things in this movie and they do them well! Millicent Simmonds plays the daughter and she damn near stole the movie! She's a deaf actress and is deaf in the movie. I saw an interview with John and he said that he wanted a deaf actress to play this role and he chose wisely here cause she was great!

The sound in this movie is very unique. If you go see it in theaters it will really test out who makes the most noise of your friends. There are some intense scenes that are very loud but they are balanced by very quiet moments. The score is a good mix of Horror-ish loud music and gentle dramatic music. Cause there are some hard hitting scenes in this movie that will prob make you tear up, I know I did! It's also really cool when the deaf daughter is being focused on all sound cuts out so we hear from her perspective and I loved that!

I overall loved this movie! I know that I will love Avengers Infinity War but I doubt I'll like it as much as I did this. These intimate Horror movies are just my thing and this was everything I wanted it to be! Even the ending is literally how I would've written it! I won't spoil what the shot is, but there's a shot in this movie about halfway through that is one of the best shots in any movie I've ever seen! It's so good!
