7 Of The Best Intros For Games Of The Past 7 Years

I was playing Far Cry 5 and I loved the intro to it so much that it got me thinking about what other games have had really strong intros. I wanted to make it a tad more interesting so I limited it to game that came out over the past 7 years.  So this list is going to be 7 of my favorite game intros over the past 7 years!

7. Destiny 2

So look, I get that this game isn't in the best state right now but man it was a really big deal when it came out! And I really loved the opening of this game! I played it like 6 times factoring in the beta and playing through 3 characters. The tower was such a central place in the first game and seeing it basically burn down as the opening level played out was awesome! I also loved how the Cabal put the giant chain around The Traveler! I'm kind of a sucker for massive destruction so this was the perfect way to start this game in my opinion!

6. Skyrim

I'm not as high on this game as some others are. Some consider this to be one of if not THE greatest game of all time. I love the world, characters, and music of this game. Everything else is kinda meh to me. Having said that though, the game starts out very strong! Having the main villain be a talking dragon and have him destroy the town you are in was awesome! Again, this falls in line with mass destruction right out of the gate! The game slows down to a snails pace ofter this though.

5. DOOM

Now this game is on this list for basically one moment. The opening to the game is cool though. Getting out of a space/hell grave and shooting demons is really cool! This game is on here because of the title card moment. Once you get in that elevator, the metal music stars playing softly, you crack your knuckles, and punch the elevator button! The music kicks up loud and the as the last riff hits you cock the shotgun to the riff! It's so good and the perfect way to start a game like this! The game does have an interesting story but it's really about going as fast as possible and shooting demons!

4. Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The past few Zelda games have kinda been criticized by slow starts and rightfully so. Twilight Princess probably has the slowest start in the series. So with Breath of the Wild Nintendo decided to change the formula of the series and with that came a change with the intro. It basically starts the same way the original game did with having the entire world open from the start. The moment you walk out into the world and the camera pans to reveal the world and the title card hits, I got a little emotional the first time I saw it.

3. Far Cry 5

As I talked about in the intro, this game is the reason I wanted to put this list together. I thought the intro to Far Cry 3 was strong but this is so much more intense. Seeing the intensity in the eyes of the Seed family up close and the surrounding outside the church is amazing! This game is about a week old so I won't go into any more than that but just know that the opening is the best in the series to me and it holds up throughout the campaign!

2. Resident Evil 7

I was so excited for this game! I didn't really play the Outlast games so this was one of the first games I played like this. I have played all the numbered Resident Evil games and was glad they decided to go in a different direction with it. The opening hour or so of this game might be the most intense gaming moment I've ever played. They nail the lighting and atmosphere! I don't get nervous or scared very often but Mia crawling up the stairs in the dark kinda got me! And also that chainsaw scene!

1. The Last of Us

I might put this opening as the best opening for any piece of entertainment I've ever experienced! Yeah it's a downer but it fits the tone of the entire game because the whole game is kind of a downer. The acting is some of the best I've seen in a game and the fact that show Joel's daughter die like that was a bold decision and I appreciate them taking that chance! Since the sequel is coming out soonish, and if you haven't played this game, I can't recommend it enough! It's around $20 on the PS4 and they put it on sale pretty often!
