Before the game came out I kind of understood the whole micro transaction system because they announced that all the dlc for the game will be free. That's something that people seemed to forget. I don't want to sound like I'm fully defending their choices because I personally waited till it was on sale around Christmas to pick it up so haha! The big thing that they did was cancel all the micro transactions pretty soon after the game came out. They said they would come back and we'll get to that. As of today, the game has been given a major patch that changes the progression system and unlocks a ton of stuff for new players.
So first off, you don't get random Star Cards anymore! You can't get them in crates and you can't buy them. You get them by playing the class they are specific to. So if you want Assault Star Cards then you have to play that class, if you want Darth Vader Star Cards, you guessed it, you have to play as Vader. There is a skill point system now that lets you unlock cards based on the level of the class. So some cards will let you get them at level 2 but the better ones will require you to be like 20 or 30. And you upgrade the cards with skill points as well. So it basically works the way the first game did in that regard of playing with a class to unlock stuff for it.
On top of that all the characters and character ships are unlocked now! So if you want to play as Chewbacca, then just pick him! That's awesome for me so I can go for some of the trophies and not have to worry about unlocking characters anymore. And the stuff you get out of loot boxes now are all cosmetic stuff like costumes and emotes. You also get credits which don't have much of a use now but they will. In April they will put some costumes and stuff to get using in game currency or crystals. Crystals are the micro transactions currency and they will come back in April was well. You can't get loot boxes using credits or real money anymore. You get them for completing in game activities.
Now I for one am excited that they did this, even if it came months after the initial launch. This is the way the game should've looked when it came out but they messed it up. I'm not gonna tell you to get over yourself if you were so turned off that you just will never play the game, cause I get that, but I will say the game is fun. The single player campaign was pretty good, the multiplayer side is super fun, and the game is just damn gorgeous to look at, especially if you have a PS4 Pro/Xbox One X or high end PC and can play in 4K HDR. As of me posting this the game is on sale for around $30 on PSN, like $23 if you have PS Plus, and it's totally worth that. It's also on sale for $30 at GameStop right now. If you were interested in playing this when it came out but just stayed away, give it a shot now. The multiplayer is really fun and it's one of the most fun Star Wars games I've ever played. It has so much detail that however you feel about EA, the people that worked on this game cares about Star Wars and it shows!
Thanks for reading and I hope you all have a good one!
