Star Wars Battlefront 2 got officially announced this past weekend at Star Wars Celebration. Now we all knew a sequel was coming and they even announced it would be during the celebration but we weren't sure just what we would see. They promised a single player campaign, which was taken out of the first one, and even more multiplayer options. Well we got a trailer and it's all that and then some!
I want to start with the single player cause that's what i'm most interested in and it looks incredible! You play as Iden Versio, a Special Forces Commander, and the story takes place right as the second Death Star explodes. It seems like we are finally going to have a story told from the Empire side and I'm stoked we get to see that! I have a feeling that she won't stay "evil" the entire story but I hope she does. The story spans 30 years and ends as a lead up to the events in The Force Awakens.
The multiplayer is going to span the entire Star Wars timeline because Darth Maul and Yoda are teased grabbing lightsabers in the trailer. I think that's smart to have the single player campaign and the multiplayer entirely separate of each other. They said on the panel that the hero characters( Darth Maul, Han Solo, Yoda, ex) will level up the more you play as them which is exciting. Cause playing as hero characters was cool in the first but they also felt limited. They also said it would be possible to take heroes down faster if your team worked together which is also nice cause they were very powerful in the first game. They mentioned that space battles would be more of a thing. They were in the first one but were also very limited and only had one game mode until the Death Star dlc came out. I hope that the unlocks are stronger in this one cause they weren't great in the first game at launch. They're fine now with the addition of the Hutt Contracts but a lot of the player base had left by the time those were added.
I put a lot of time into the first game and I really did enjoy my time with it, I've actually been playing some since this one got announced, but it was lacking. The running joke was that the first game felt like a $60 demo and that's not entirely wrong with how little content was in the initial game. I do think that EA and Dice will make a great game this time around since the head writer of Spec Ops: The Line wrote the story and there isn't going to be a season pass. I have confidence this will the the game that we wanted two years ago when the first game came out! As long as I can slice people up with Darth Maul and the single player is cool then I'm good!
