Thoughts on Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage

Do you have a book series, tv show, movie or video games series, or music artist that just sitting down to a new piece of content kind of makes you tear up because of excitement? That's the Kingdom Hearts series for me. It is a very confusing series story wise but the characters make it for me. I really care about them and the decisions they make through the games. And the music, my God the music is incredible in this series.

Ok so let's get to this game. This is part of Kingdom Hearts 2.8 and you play as Aqua from Birth by Sleep and it takes place right after Birth by Sleep ends. This is such a gorgeous game! It's running on the Unreal 4 engine and it's so nice to finally have a new console KH to play! It is only about 3 hours but that's fine because it bridges right into Kingdom Hearts 3. It plays a lot like Birth by Sleep with the super fast combat and magic use. You get pieces of cloths and can put them on Aqua if you want, like being able to change her dress design or put cat ears on her. Square added that kind of stuff with Lightning Returns and it's not a big thing so I'm alright with it.

The story is pretty straight forward here until the end and then it kinda gets complicated. It ties into the other games in a way I wasn't expecting and was really cool to see those older places running with this engine. Aqua is a great character and I'm glad that we got this stand alone game focusing on her and the struggles post BBS. I do kinda think people will bash this more than like it because the story bits could've been put into a 30 minute cut scene but actually getting a taste of how KH 3 will look and play is reason enough to play through this if you get 2.8.

I will say that if you recently got a PS4 and haven't played a KH game before then you should wait on this one cause you'll have no idea that is going on. Wait until 1.5 and 2.5 come out in March and after you play those then come back to this one. So I had a lot of fun playing and looking at this and will be playing though it several times until KH 3 comes out. I mean if you get 2.8 you'll probably play this anyway, and you should!
