My Favorite Movies of 2016 Part 2

5. Deadpool

Oh my gah this movie! This movie had such hype around it after the tech demo came out a few years ago and it's one of those that fully lived up to it! The blend of action and comedy is so on point and the writing is so good! I honestly can't imagine the Deadpool character having another voice other than Ryan Reynolds after seeing this. It's one of those perfect casting choices and you can tell that he's having so much fun. The fact that the studio had the guts to slap an R rating on this and have it packed with cursing and violence shows they had deserved confidence with this movie. The plot is simple but it does what it needs to. The fourth wall breaking is awesome, especially with the Wolverine comments. There's also a line about the X-Men mansion/school that is amazing! This movie will be the model for making R rated comic book movies for years to come!

4. Hush

Now the plot for this movie is super simple. It's about a girl who is deaf and a man is trying to get into her house. And really the whole movie is him wanting in and her trying to avoid him but it's done in such an interesting way. It does have a The Strangers vibe going on but it separates it's self pretty fast from that movie. There are some really interesting scenes with her trying to keep up with him throughout and hearing from her perspective. I really don't want to say anything more about this movie because I liked it so much and I don't want to ruin any suspense. Just know that it's a legit great movie in my opinion and you should check it out cause it's on Netflix and I know you have Netflix haha.

3. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

I am a huge Star Wars fan so I had super high expectations for this movie and I'm not surprised at all that it made my list and is this high. The only thing we knew about this story was from the opening scroll from A New Hope and they made an amazing Star Wars movie from there. The characters, the sound and just that Star Wars swagger is so good and is handled with such care and respect. This movie has the best action of any of the previous movies and it's honestly just amazing to see these iconic things like AT-ATs and Star Destroyers used how they are! Darth Vader is in this movie very little but they use him so well and he is part of what will be one of the most memorable scenes in Star Wars history! I saw this twice in theaters and I can't wait to own so I can watch it again! It deserves to be with the original trilogy with how well it ties into them! Such good stuff!

2. The Neon Demon

Drive is one of my favorite movies and whenever Nicolas Winding Refn directs a new movie I'm always down to see it and I know I'm probably gonna like it. So going into this movie I knew I was gonna like it but I wasn't expecting to fall in love with it. This movie is an absolute visual masterpiece! The movie focuses on fashion in LA and what you have to do in order to survive. It's an interesting look at the girls and what they go through from getting rejected to getting replaced. There's a scene early on in a nightclub that is one of the best scenes of the year to me. And oh my gah the music is incredible! Cliff Martinez did the music and he's a master at his craft! Now having said all of that, it's very possible that you'll see this movie and hate it or just think it's weird and that's fine cause there are some pretty disturbing scenes. I loved it!

1. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Cut

Welp...Batman v Superman. I know that this was one of the most talked about movies of the year with some loving it, some hating it, some hating the theatrical cut and liking the Ultimate Cut. Outside of The Dark Knight I'm not sure I went into a movie with more hype. Batman isn't just my favorite comic book character but my favorite fictional character ever! And for me, Ben Affleck is the onscreen Batman that I've always dreamed about. This was so much more of a comic book movie than the Nolan Batman movies were and I loved that about it. I picked the Ultimate Cut because it fills in holes and just makes it a better movie in my opinion. This is a much darker take on superheroes than what Marvel is doing right now and I get some people not liking that but it's exactly what I want. The last 40 or so minutes of this movie has some of the coolest action I've ever seen and I ate it up! The way Zac Snyder tied in the death of Superman at the end was so well done. Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman is fantastic as well!  I loved this movie and thought it was a great start to the current DC movie universe. They could've put the other members of the Justice League in there in a cooler way but meh, great otherwise!
