My Favorite Games of 2016

I was gonna do a top 10 list of my favorite games but turns out I played a lot of older games this year so I had trouble coming up with 10 haha. I played way more than 10 games that came out in 2016 but of the ones I played, I didn't have 10 that I felt could make my top list. So, I just put together some games I really liked this year and I'm just gonna have them in a sort of order. The last game on the list is my favorite but it's by no means a numbered list. Ok, here's my favorite games of 2016!

Pokemon Sun

So I chose to play Sun instead of Moon mainly because the legendary Pokemon looked cooler to me so haha. I've played most of the Pokemon games over the years, I didn't play Silver/Gold or Ruby/Sapphire, and the story is actually the best thing about this game in my opinion. I still the Black/White has the best story in the series but this one is right behind it. They did change up the formula with this one and got rid of the traditional gyms and put Island trials in their place. I do think that the trials are cool and some are interesting but I really missed the gyms and getting gym badges. Honestly the gameplay is pretty much the same expect for the Z Crystals that you get. When a Pokemon holds one they basically turn into a Final Fantasy summon and it's pretty awesome but can't be skipped so it can get old 25 hours in haha. I did really enjoy this game but I think X/Y are better.

Overwatch

So as it turns out Blizzard knows how to make games and make them really really fun! I honestly did not know what to think when I heard they were making a first person shooter with the market already flooded with them but damn they made a good one! The amount of personality each character has is something so unique and awesome to hear when they interact with each other before each match. All the characters play super different but they managed to keep the game very simple to pick up and play. The only knock I have on the game is it's online only and it would've been cool to have a single player campaign so we could learn more about these characters.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End

Naughty Dog told us that this is Nathan Drake's last story and if that's true then they delivered my favorite game in the series! They've done such a good job with the character development in these games to the point that I feel like these are real people dealing with real situations. I totally bought in with Nate's brother and the relationship problems that Nate and Elena have. It's interesting to me that this is an action game and the things i remember the most are character moments haha. The action is great though! There are a few big set piece moments that are some of the best in the series. And this game is so gorgeous that I actually took a few pics and shared them on PSN haha. The ending is literal perfection and I do hope this is the last time we play as Nate cause it wraps up better than most game series do.

Watch Dogs 2

I really liked the first Watch Dogs even though it wasn't quite what we were told it would be. The hacking was limited and the main character's story was a little meh and predictable. So they really stepped it up with this game. You can hack most things in the open world and the characters have great personalities. Marcus is the main character and he has an interesting back story that makes sense  why he became a hacker. San Fransisco looks great in this game and it's pretty authentic from what I've heard since I've never been there haha. The missions are all pretty fun and varied and even the side stuff is pretty cool! My favorite thing about this game though is it's style. It has art that looks like early Rob Zombie album art and it's so cool and it fits the humor. I actually got the Platinum Trophy for this on PS4 and I only have a few of those.

Tom Clancy's The Division

I am a big sucker for looter shooters! I love the first two Borderlands games, Destiny has consumed so many hours of my life and I love me some Diablo 3! So when I found out this was a looter shooter I got very excited. I played the beta and was hooked after that. The sort isn't anything too special in my opinion but I is pretty cool and the characters are interesting. The enemies are very interesting but not enough is done with them. The gameplay is where this game has legs though and there's a lot of it. The shooting isn't as tight as a Destiny but it does feel good and there's just something really cool about roaming a snow covered NYC. The Survival dlc that came out for this is very interesting as well. It takes away all your gear and you have to make stuff and pick up guns as you go as you battle the blizzard outside. It plays more like what the game was marketed as and I hope they learn from that cause it brought people back to this game in a major way.

Final Fantasy XV

Man...I am so glad that I ended up loving this game! Cause a 10 year production and changing from Versus XIII and moving console generations had me concerned before I saw final footage of it. To me the characters are just so great and well developed here that I legit cared about them by the end. The combat system is very fun as well and has a bit of a Kingdom Hearts feel to it which is good cause I love the KH series! The game is gorgeous and the art is top notch classic Final Fantasy. I can understand people that love the classic games not digging this one as much because it is very different. Using the car to travel the open world if odd seeing as you don't have much control of it once you have a destination. And the liner bits at the end can be tedious but the story telling during those bits are great. And to me the ending is perfect and it's one of my favorites end to a Final Fantasy game!

Forza Horizon 3

I honestly didn't think I'd love this game as much as I did. I played the first one on Xbox 360 and I liked it but got tired of it but this game is just so damn fun! Driving off road and getting experience for literally everything you do is something that other open world driving games needs to look into in my opinion. Australia looks gorgeous and the amount of things to do is so vast that you could play this game for months. And I really like the way driving is handled with the Horizon games. It's a mix of simulation and arcade racing so it feels good to take turns and drift without letting off the gas much. The Blizzard Mountain dlc recently came out and it's cool to drive through all the snow and blizzards. I also really liked the music but I like bass heavy music and this game is full of that so haha.

Dishonored 2

I'm not surprised that this game made my list because I loved the first game and honestly this one is better! I liked playing as Emily and it honestly felt like the dev wanted you toppled as her with how the story goes. Cause you can play as Corvo but you start out as her before you choose. This game nails down stealth and action better than any series I've ever played. Killing people is just so fun and brutal and some of the death animations are hilariously brutal haha. The added new powers are cool and my favorite is probably how Emily turns into a shadow and can crawl around and kill. So cool haha! The story is really cool and they set up a god reason for being on the run again. It is a tad short but it's meant to be replayed a few times and I definitely will be playing this game several times. And also the art style is so cool with blending real with cell shade and it has a very unique look that works. Great great game!
